What are thyroid nodules?
- Thyroid nodules are a buildup of cells in the thyroid gland. They can cause pain or a bump on the neck. Some people may have a hard time breathing or swallowing.
- Nodules can be caused by many things.
How do we get an appointment?
- After a referral is made, our team talks together about how quickly a child should be seen.
- To make this decision, the team may ask for your child to get extra tests done. these may be blood tests or imaging.
- The Thyroid Nodule Clinic meets twice a month to review cases. Appointments are often scheduled within two weeks of this review.
What should we expect at clinic visits?
- Before your first visit, the team may ask for test results from visits to other specialists.
- At the first visit, you will see endocrinology. These doctors have special training to work with kidney and hormone function.
- Then, our team will discuss the next best steps. They will also decide what team members you should see at future visits.
How is it treated?
Treatment depends on each child’s problems. It can include medicines, surgery or no treatment at all.
