Anal dilatation

This procedure involves stretching the anal muscles with special dilators so stool can pass through. It is used with infants who are born with an abnormally narrow anal passage, and your child’s doctor will show you how to perform dilatations at home if this treatment is appropriate for your child. Dilatations are most often done once or twice a day for a few weeks, though some children may need dilatations for as long as six or seven months.
