How it works

Video visits through Children's Online Urgent Care work on your smartphone, tablet or computer. The doctors you video chat with will be able to give a diagnosis, create a care plan and prescribe medications when appropriate. Every video visit is secure, private and HIPAA-compliant. If the doctor feels an in-person visit is required, you will not be charged for the video visit.

Who can I contact if I need help getting started?

If you are having issues getting started with Children's Online Urgent Care, call our help desk at (888) 319-6263 or email childrensfromhome@americanwell.com for assistance.

Can I bring my child to a walk-in urgent care clinic instead?

If you would rather not video chat with a doctor, you can instead bring your child to any of our walk-in urgent care clinics located throughout southeast Wisconsin. At each of our urgent care clinics, you can either walk in with no reservation or reserve your spot online ahead of time. Learn more about our walk-in urgent care clinics.

What is the cost and will my insurance cover my child’s online visit?

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the cost of a video visit through Children's Online Urgent Care is reduced to $20 (typically visits are $49). Payment is required in the form of debit/credit card or HSA card at the time of the online appointment.

This $20 cost may be covered by insurance, but it is up to you to check with your insurance provider. Your child does not have to be a current patient.

How do I get connected for the online visit?

We suggest using mobile devices (phones or tablets) to get a good connection to the video visit. Download the Children's From Home app available on Apple Store and Google Play to get started.

You may be able to connect through a Windows or Mac desktop computer, but you will need a working webcam for the visit.

How long do visits last?

Children's From Home visits usually last about 10 minutes. The doctor will connect directly with you and your child.

Will I see my Children’s Wisconsin pediatrician when I use Children’s Online Urgent Care?

Not necessarily. We have a team of pediatric experts available to treat your child for on-demand care 24/7. If your child is already a Children's Wisconsin patient, the notes from their visit will be documented in their existing medical record for their primary care provider to see.

What if my child needs medication?

If your child needs a prescription for the condition being treated, the doctor can send a prescription electronically to the pharmacy you select. He/she can also provide a school/daycare note regarding your child's condition.

If prescription refills are needed, the doctor seeing your child will assess your child's health history to determine if refills are safe at this time or whether it is necessary to see your primary care provider.

How do I see a summary of the visit?

If your child is currently a Children's Wisconsin patient, a summary of the visit can be found in your child's MyChart account (setup your child's MyChart account).

If your child is not currently a Children's patient or you do not have a MyChart account:

  1. Log into childrensfromhome.com and select patient's account.
  2. Go to My Records at the top.

  2. Click on My Account.
  3. Choose Billing Activity.
