I recently had the opportunity on our Facebook page to give a live tour of an operating room and explain how our pediatric surgical center is equipped to give the best surgical care for kids. I encourage you to watch the video above to get a behind-the-scenes look and learn about my role as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon.
Since anesthesia is one of the most common fears a parent has about their child’s surgery, I always reassure my patient families that our anesthesiologists are pediatric trained. This means our anesthesiologists have the training, expertise and experience to know how to administer anesthesia safely and effectively to children at any age.
For many parents, sitting in the waiting room during their child’s surgery may seem like a daunting experience. For certain procedures, our surgical team is able to relieve parents’ anxiety by sending them real-time text messages — directly from the operating room — to keep them updated through their child’s surgery. But that’s not all. Our Patient Journey messaging service also sends information to parents on what to expect, how to prepare and things to know in the days and weeks following.
Another thing parents should know is Children’s Wisconsin is among the first in the nation to be verified as a Level I Children’s Surgery Center by the American College of Surgeons. This is the highest-level verification available, and it means that we have the resources to provide comprehensive surgical care and can perform all types of surgeries — even the most complex — in babies, young children and teens.
