Why our genomics program?

Does Children's Wisconsin have experience with whole genome sequencing (WGS)?

The laboratory has significant experience with whole genome/exome sequencing.

What is the success rate?

For patients that have had extensive evaluations and testing over many years for a genetic etiology, genomic testing identifies an etiology in about a quarter (25%) of these cases.

Is the test FDA approved?

The laboratory’s genomic testing was developed and its performance characteristics determined by the laboratory to identify pathogenic variants within the human genome. It has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.  The FDA has determined that such clearance or approval is not necessary. This test is used for clinical purposes. It should not be regarded as investigational or for research. The laboratory is CLIA certified.
