Pediatric viral trends - Jan. 27

After this week, Jan. 24, Children’s Wisconsin will pause on providing a weekly report on the number of patients who are visiting us and impacted by viral illnesses. Since early November, we have provided data to help show how viral illnesses were impacting kids, supplementing data from the state and helping to inform the public. We are thankful that throughout this extreme viral season, Children's Wisconsin has had the ability to care for the sickest kids in the state. We thank all the health care workers and staff at Children's Wisconsin who made that possible.

This week’s takeaway

“As we remain steady with the number of children who are seeking care at Children’s Wisconsin due to viral illnesses, we will continue to closely monitor these trends over the next several months. Each year, we learn a bit more about what viral seasonal patterns might will look like in the future.

We’re also staying informed on the latest from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as they make recommendations for a simplified, yearly COVID-19 vaccine process for future seasons. This is a promising step for protection against future outbreaks of this virus and is consistent with the approach used over many years to lessen the impact of seasonal influenza.”
