Language Services
Dimension of care: Equal care
Why we measure it - It is important for all patients and families to be able to talk with our staff. Good communication is critical to good care. We have interpreters to help when language is a barrier.
What this means - The chart shows interpreters helped our patient families 46,457 times in 2012.
About the data - This is the number of times patients and families worked with an interpreter. Our top three language requests are Spanish, Hmong, and American Sign Language. We can provide support for more than 180 languages.
How we provide the best care
- Our Language Services Program provides face-to-face, telephone, and video relay interpreters for patient families who do not speak English or who have hearing or speech issues. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There is no cost to the patient family.
- We only use qualified medical interpreters. Studies show that when family or friends interpret, they often leave out important details, or do not know how to explain medical terms. Our interpreters have special training and know how to handle sensitive situations.
