Diagnosing and treating eosinophilic gastroenteritis
If the doctor suspects eosinophilic gastroenteritis based on your child’s medical history and risk factors, the doctor will use an endoscopy and biopsy to look for signs of eosinophilic gastroenteritis.
Treatment typically involves steroid medications and/or diet changes. Your child’s doctor may recommend an elimination diet (which involves eliminating potentially problematic foods and then adding them back one at a time) to determine which foods are triggering your child’s abnormal immune reaction. Some children may require enteral nutrition and tube feeding to maximize nutrition and growth.
