Treatment foster care benefits and advantages

As a treatment foster parent, you will be a part of a professional team. You will play a significant role in helping a child achieve their treatment goals.

Fostering is a rewarding decision. Our team is here to help you through every step of the process! Become a treatment foster parent!

How we make a difference

  • The Children’s Wisconsin Treatment Foster Care (TFC) program has been rated as one of the top programs in the state annually since 2013
  • 98 percent of our youth remain stable in their treatment foster home setting, eliminating additional trauma due to placement disruption and expediting permanency
  • No Forced Placements - The Children’s Wisconsin Treatment Foster Care program uses a relationship scale to measure the strength of the relationship between the child and foster family
  • We offer 24/7 support to our children and foster families
  • In house training that can be attended virtually or in person. We strive to fit your scheduling needs
  • Children’s offers an on hand clinical consultant that provides expert consultation to staff and foster caregivers needing additional support and/or who are caring for high risk youth.
  • Foster Parent Support Network - Through agency sponsored events, our parents are able to share and connect with one another throughout the year. We also maintain a Foster Parent webpage with resources dedicated to assisting our licensed foster parents.

What to expect as a Children's TFC parent

  • Additional support. In addition to the child’s case manager, Treatment Foster Care homes also have a specialized licensed social worker to support both the children and foster parents. This person is able to have more frequent contact and is highly involved to provide additional support and advocacy
  • Initial and ongoing training that equips our foster parents with the necessary information and tools for success. Trainings include evidenced based training model Together Facing the Challenge, Handling Conflict, Building Strong Families, Endings and Beginnings
  • Trauma informed care. Since 2008 CW has been providing a trauma informed care education curriculum for all treatment foster parents and staff statewide. The curriculum educates foster parents and staff on the core principles of trauma informed care and how these principles can be incorporated into caring for foster children with trauma histories
  • Children’s has established best practice and safety standards for treatment foster care services statewide. Standards have been established to ensure quality service for the health, safety and well-being of children and families served, and to provide guidance on how to create a safe treatment environment.
  • Newsflash - A bimonthly newsletter that keeps you informed
  • Throughout the year, Children’s foster parents receive regular emails and updates about community- based trainings and other helpful resources. We strive to keep you and your family engaged and educated.
