22Q / Velocardiofacial Syndrome (VCFS) Program
Each child with 22Q, or velocardiofacial syndrome (VCFS), may have different needs. The Velocardiofacial Syndrome Program at Children's Wisconsin is designed to address your child’s specific needs. Ours is the only program of its type in Wisconsin that treats children with 22Q.
We know the importance of having an entire team to care for your child in one location. We will coordinate care from all of the specialists your child needs to see in one visit.
We have a team of experts from various specialties that work together to meet the medical, educational and psychosocial needs of children and families who are affected by VCFS. Depending on the needs of your child, you may meet with specialists from:
- Speech-language pathology
- Occupational therapy
- Physical therapy
Individualized care and planning
Each time you have a visit with at our program, your child will interact with multiple specialists who will develop an ongoing individualized care plan that highlights progress and recommendations. This care plan allows our specialists to tailor care to your child’s specific needs and the needs of the rest of your family.
A key focus of the program is to prepare your child for the transition into adulthood by facilitating the necessary skills, like:
- Social development
- Independent living skills
- Vocational training
We understand that most parents want to find information about VCFS and you may want to talk with other families who are facing the same kinds of challenges.
To help you learn as much as you can and to put you in touch with other parents, we’ve put together a list of resources and links.
- Clinic visits range from four to six hours, depending on the number of specialists your child needs to see.
- You may need to get insurance pre-authorizations and referrals. Each specialist bills separately.
The VCFS Program is located in the Children's Wisconsin Clinics Building in the Master’s Speech and Hearing/Ear, Nose and Throat suite.
