IRBNet

Using IRBNet

The Children's Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) uses the web-based platform IRBNet to manage submissions. Because this is web-based, at www.irbnet.org, it is accessible from any computer or internet enabled device. Users must create an account with IRBNet in order to create new projects or have projects shared with them. It is highly recommended that users review the following training materials to learn how to navigate IRBNet and correctly submit packages and find documents. If you'd like to schedule a formalized training with the HRPP/IRB Office, please complete our consultation request form on the home page.

Training materials

The resources page contain videos that walk through how to navigate and use IRBNet. There are also PDF documents with screen shots that can be printed for easy reference.

There are instructions for:

  • New user registration
  • New project submission
  • Post-submission advanced topics

Sandbox training environment

The Sandbox training environment is identical to the live version of IRBNet, but allows users to practice navigation, submissions, and locating documents without implications like in the live version.

Technical support for IRBNet

We understand technical difficulties are frustrating. The following settings and recommendations will help improve your experience when using IRBNet.

  • Ensure the site affiliation for the project is set to Children's Wisconsin in "Project overview."
    • Note: Sometimes, the Medical College of Wisconsin is selected because the PI is a Medical College of Wisconsin employee. However, for purposes of using IRBNet, the site must be Children's Wisconsin.
      • To check your institution affiliation, access your User Profile and edit affiliations as needed.
  • We recommend using the latest version of Google Chrome as your internet browser.
    • Note: There are known compatibility issues with other internet browsers that are out of our control.
