Neuro intensive care
The pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at Children’s Wisconsin is among the largest units in the nation that delivers high quality care and positive patient outcomes lead by a team of board certified pediatric intensivists.
While all of our 24 pediatric critical care physicians care for patients with neurological issues, we are excited to have an interdisciplinary neuro intensive care team. The collaborative team includes intensive care neurologists, pediatric intensivists, neurosurgeons, trauma surgeons, epileptologists, stroke neurologists, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, and neuropsychologists.
They work together to provide the best care possible for our patients during their stay in the PICU and CICU. The care team also includes specially trained ICU nurses, respiratory therapists, dieticians, pharmacists, child life specialists and social workers.
Neuro intensive care focuses on the care of patients with many of the following conditions: traumatic brain injury (TBI), intracranial hypertension, intracranial bleeding, arteriovenous malformations, pediatric stroke, brain tumors, post-operative management of neurosurgical patients, encephalopathy, encephalitis, meningitis, status epilepticus and central diabetes insipidus.
Our goal is to provide high-quality, consistent care for all of our patients requiring neurocritical care to ensure the best possible outcomes: from ICU to clinic.
